“I have OCD” has become a colloquial phrase. For those who truly suffer from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), this can minimize the distress that comes with a diagnosis of this serious mental illness.
OCD is not a character flaw or a willpower issue. It’s not about liking organization, cleaning, or perfectionism.
It is estimated that 2-3% of the population will be diagnosed with OCD in their lifetime, and of adults who suffer from OCD, 50% are thought to have significant impairment in their daily life.
That’s why I’m so excited to have Christina Chua, MSW, join me on this inspiring episode of The Essential Oil Revolution – she’s one of the most compassionate, kind-hearted, and knowledgeable therapists and coaches out there.
Christina’s mission is to help people recover from OCD and anxiety. Her techniques are based in the physiology of trauma, neuroscience, emotional regulation and mindful self-compassion. Christina also incorporates aromatherapy into her work with clients and her own practice.
We need to make mental health tools more accessible so that people don’t feel like they’ve been failed when traditional treatments don’t work on the brain. Christina offers us one such way:
