Alberta’s health minister is facing backlash after attending a conference focused on the role of naturopaths in primary care in the province. Adriana LaGrange posted a photo to social media this week of her and Rob Ross, president of the Alberta Naturopathic Doctors Association. Connor O’Neill and Perrinville’s Cottage Bakery hosted what will likely become their annual “Pancakes & Bacon” community breakfast on the drizzly morning of May 25th. Despite the weather, the event, sponsored by real estate agent Michael Green, had a fantastic turnout. Free freshly made pancakes, crispy bacon, and hot coffee were served throughout the morning. Ottawa’s Montfort Hospital is building a specialized mental health crisis zone within its emergency department to better treat patients experiencing psychiatric emergencies and reduce strain on the current system.Montreal Road Hospital’s emergency department sees more than 50,000 visits a year, and 8 per cent of those are mental health-related, said CEO and president Dominique Giroux.Compared to other hospitals in Ontario, the number of psychiatric patients coming to Montfort is “about double the provincial average,” Giroux told CBC Radio.
