The sacral chakra is the energy center in the body that governs creativity, sexual pleasure, and sensuality. It is located on the pubic bone below the navel.

Read further to learn about the sacral chakra, its color, what it represents, and how to balance an excess or blocked chakra.

A brief history of chakras

In Hindu and Buddhist traditions, chakras are different areas of the body where energy is concentrated. In Sanskrit, the term “chakra” roughly means “wheel” or “circle” and corresponds to energy centers throughout the body.

There are 7 chakras

According to Hinduism, there are seven chakras in the human body. Moving from the base of the spine to the top of the head, it looks like this:

  • root chakra
  • sacral chakra
  • solar plexus chakra
  • heart chakra
  • throat chakra
  • third eye chakra
  • crown chakra

Activating your chakras supports the flow of energy throughout your body and can contribute to your overall well-being.

Each chakra correlates with acupuncture points along the body and is associated with specific organs, nerve bundles, muscles, and endocrine groups.

A chakra acupuncturist may be able to identify and treat excess or blocked chakras. Activating your chakras supports the flow of energy throughout your body and can contribute to your overall well-being.

Does the sacral chakra really exist?

Identifying and activating energy centers such as the chakras to treat medical conditions is not widely practiced or accepted in Western medicine. Medically, it is widely researched whether energy healing techniques can affect our physical, mental and emotional functioning, and whether chakra activation can alleviate symptoms or treat disease. not well-understood.

However, research shows that prayer, faith, and spirituality can positively impact health outcomes.

One study examined complementary and alternative integrative treatment (CAIM) for substance use disorders. It showed that the CAIM strategy, which focuses on balancing energy fields such as chakras and meridians (connecting acupuncture points throughout the body), is effective. It was effective in reducing symptoms such as anxiety, depression, stress, and pain.

What color is the sacral chakra?

Heather Shannon, AASECT certified sex therapist and host of the top-ranked podcast Ask A Sex Therapist, explains why your sacral chakra is orange and what it means.

“Each chakra or energy center has a frequency, which corresponds to a color. The frequency of the sacral chakra is said to be 417Hz. This frequency is also known for its ability to filter out negative frequencies. Masu.”

What does the sacral chakra represent?

The sacral chakra corresponds to the kidneys and reproductive organs and is said to represent the following:

  • creativity, self-expression
  • emotions, emotional intelligence
  • sexuality, sensual pleasure, intimacy, sexual urges, amorous feelings
  • Relationships, social fulfillment, and healthy boundaries

Where is my sacral chakra?

The sacral chakra is located along the spine a few inches below the navel.

Is my sacral chakra blocked?—How to tell?

Chakras can become blocked due to stress, anxiety, trauma, abuse, physical illness, and unhealthy lifestyle habits. Chakra blocks can manifest as physical and emotional confusion.

Heather Shannon, sex therapist

Maybe your sex drive is low because your sexual energy is blocked, or maybe you keep meeting great people on dates but nothing works because you’re not emotionally available. If you’re an artist, you may feel like your creativity is being stifled.

physical health problems

When energy centers are blocked, our body’s physiology can become dysfunctional. Optimal functioning of the digestive, renal, and reproductive systems may be interfered with.

“Physical health problems related to the sacral chakra can include intestinal problems, reproductive problems, or kidney problems. Energy is literally transformed within our bodies, so the sacral chakra A clogged chakra can lead to problems like constipation…or it can be related to poor kidney function and detoxification, meaning your detoxification pathways are literally clogged,” says Shannon. .

According to Ayurvedic medicine, pathological disorders associated with sacral chakra imbalance include menstrual disorders, nocturnal enuresis, prostatitis, impotence, testicular, ovarian, and uterine diseases, lower back pain, and arthritis.

mental health issues

When the sacral chakra is blocked, it can negatively impact your sexual energy, creativity, and the quality of your relationships.

Shannon explains: “Maybe your sexual energy is blocked and your sex drive is low. Or maybe you keep dating great people but nothing works because you’re emotionally unavailable.” If you are an artist, you may feel that your creativity is being stifled.”

Is my sacral chakra too active?

Excessive flow of energy to the sacral chakra can cause this chakra to become overactive. This creates an imbalance in the amount of energy directed to this particular energy center.

You may have unhealthy boundaries and over-utilize this energy source to cope with stress and life problems.

An overactive sacral chakra can inhibit creativity, sexual desire, and emotions.

“This may seem like a lot of creativity, but it’s not very grounded. It can look like a lot of sex or masturbation to the point of getting in the way.” [with] other areas of life. “The sacral chakra is also a very powerful emotional energy center, and when it’s overactive, it can cause us to become emotional and cry a lot,” says Shannon.

Emotions associated with sacral chakra imbalance include lust, jealousy, and insatiable desire.

How to balance the sacral chakra

There are many ways to work on activating the sacral chakra. Balancing your sacral chakra will improve your creativity and help you solve problems better. As your sexual energy becomes more fluid, your body may move more easily.

Using water to balance the sacral chakra

The sacral chakra is associated with creative flow and physical movement. The fluidity of the water element helps balance a blocked sacral chakra.

Spend time in the bath, pool, lake or ocean. Take a shower and rinse your body with water.

“While you’re in the water, imagine the blockage you’re worrying about melting away,” advises Shannon.

Try a cup of hot tea to unblock your chakras. “[C]”Old water turns into solids (clogs), and warm water helps dissolve and break up the clogs,” explains Shannon.

Incorporate fun movements

Regular physical activity improves blood flow and helps clear clogged chakras. It doesn’t have to be complicated or extreme. Find fun ways to move your body.

Shannon suggests, “Dancing is especially effective because it allows you to naturally access both your creative and sensual energies.”

Lean into orange

Why not try incorporating more oranges into your life? This means wearing orange clothes, eating orange foods, lighting orange candles, and adding orange items to your home.

get professional help

If you’re having trouble overcoming relationship problems or sexual issues, it’s important to seek help from a professional, such as a counselor or sex therapist.

They may be able to provide support, healing practices, and guidance on how to improve your sexual and emotional well-being.

Tips to relieve overactivity of the sacral chakra

Directing your focus and energy to other chakras is an effective way to calm an overactive chakra.

Shannon explains: “Intention is powerful, send that energy to your roots to ground it, power it to your solar plexus, send it to your heart to open your heart, send it to your throat to express your truth, send it to your third eye to trust. “You can reach your crown to connect with your own intuition or something greater than yourself.”

Can sex help balance the sacral chakra?

Sex can help relieve blockages in the sacral chakra. Specifically, when you experience an orgasm, pleasure hormones are released and their production increases. Orgasms increase the movement of the lymphatic system and promote detoxification of the body.

“[Orgasms] You can also promote [a] It allows you to have a closer connection with yourself and your partner, [it] It helps to eliminate relationship blockages and sexual energy blockages at the same time while supporting detoxification,” explains Shannon.

what this means for you

There is limited scientific research focused on chakras and healing energy techniques. However, strategies to activate your chakras, such as moving your body regularly, swimming in the pool, and enjoying a cup of tea, are great ways to practice self-care and boost your mood.
