Travis Barker has come a long way Since Survive a fatal plane crash In 2008, one of the results was running. On Tuesday (June 18th), Blink 182 The drummer launched a wellness initiative Run Travis Run It was inspired by his recovery from an accident.
“After an accident in 2008 left me with burns over 70 percent of my body, doctors told me I may never be able to walk or play the drums like I used to,” Barker said in a statement. “I was never a very athletic person and had never played sports, but I immediately felt the urge to prove everyone wrong, including myself.”
“It started with short walks and then turned into short runs every day. Every time I ran, I felt calm and a surge of dopamine. I’ve been doing this for years now and always start my day with it. When I’m on tour, I run three miles every day before a show,” he added. “Last year, I ran my first half marathon and participated in a few 5K races. I loved seeing people from all walks of life running together and supporting each other. The running community is huge, and that’s what inspired me to create Run Travis Run as a way to bring like-minded people together. I want to motivate people to get outside and walk or run for a few hours and make healthy decisions and develop healthy habits.”
Run Travis Run will take place in Los Angeles on July 6 and in Queens, New York on July 21, the morning of Blink-182’s performances in both cities. According to a press release, the event is billed as a “360-degree experience exploring health, wellness and mindfulness.” It will also feature fitness classes, mindfulness workshops and “experiential activations” with the brand.
