Just when you thought you were sick of hearing about mouth tape, one company is taking this sleep trend even further with a new vitamin-infused mouth tape.
Dream Performance and Recovery recently launched DreamTape+, a new version of the original DreamTape, made from a vitamin-infused fabric that is said to be good for your skin and sleep.
There has been a lot of discussion about mouth taping in the sleep community, with many sleep experts and doctors advocating against the trend, so what makes DreamTape+ different from other mouth tapes on the market?
What’s new with DreamTape+?
The latest version of DreamTape+ is made from bamboo silk infused with vitamins such as collagen, vitamin E, vitamin B, and aloe vera extract. This is the first vitamin-infused mouth tape on the market. These new ingredients make DreamTape+ mouth tape unique and are said to be beneficial for the skin.
I don’t know about you, but the thought of sticking adhesive on my mouth every night makes my skin ache, so DreamTape+ is trying to reduce that damage by creating an adhesive that’s infused with vitamins.
what potential What do these new ingredients do for your skin?
Dream Tape+ Ingredients
- collagen
- Increases skin elasticity and prevents wrinkles
- Vitamin E
- Moisturizes and softens the skin
- Vitamin B
- Reduces skin inflammation and promotes collagen production
- Aloe Vera Extract
- Moisturizes the skin and heals skin and scars
It is important to note that these are all general benefits of each vitamin. (1) At this time, there is not enough evidence to suggest that applying vitamin-infused mouth tape provides any benefits to the skin.
The idea of taping your mouth at night may seem very strange, but why did this become a trend in the first place?
Why is mouth taping so popular?
The act of taping one’s mouth shut first went viral on TikTok (where they call it SleepTok) in 2023, garnering more than 24 million views. It’s become even more popular recently after celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow and Ashley Graham promoted the hack on social media.
Adherents of this method say they began taping their mouths overnight to reduce mouth breathing, sharpen their jawline, prevent dry mouth, minimize snoring, and get better sleep.(2)
While these benefits sound great at first, the jury is still out on whether or not mouth taping is an effective sleep technique.
Does Mouth Tape Work? What Doctors Say
Celebrities say one thing, but many doctors say another: They say there is limited research supporting the benefits of mouth taping.
“Mouth taping is not widely recognised as an established method of preventing mouth breathing while you sleep, and there is limited evidence around its benefits so it’s best to consult with a healthcare professional before trying it,” says Dr Raj Dasgupta, chief medical adviser at Sleep Police.
Who shouldn’t try mouth taping?
What’s more, doctors warn that taping your mouth while you sleep could be potentially dangerous for some people.
“Taping your mouth is potentially dangerous for people with sleep apnea, making it difficult to breathe properly through the night, further reducing oxygen levels in the body and increasing the risk of developing other serious health conditions and sleep disorders,” says Dr. Shelby Harris, director of sleep health at Sleep Police.
While it may be tempting to try out the latest sleep hack, this trend isn’t for everyone, and as always, it’s best to check with your doctor before trying out any trends that involve taping your mouth.
