The desert has been considered a place of spiritual healing for centuries. The arid climate, natural springs, cavernous valleys, and gigantic mountains attract yoga masters, landscape admirers, and meditation experts alike.
Tucson is an ideal destination for those who want to explore spiritual healing opportunities, including shamanic, energy, Reiki, crystals, and more.
According to an article on Sage Goddess Online, the city is located in the southern part of the state and sits in the middle of one of the most prominent vortices in North America.
Tucson has a variety of places based on diversity and service when seeking spiritual solace in the desert.
Shamanic healing is one of Tucson’s “alternative healing” options.
Heartstone Healing Arts: Shamanic Healing and Energy Medicine offers numerous spiritual healing services. Owner Celia Blackwood has been practicing Reiki healing and shamanism for over 10 years.

Blackwood offers a variety of shamanic services including illumination processes, extractions, soul recovery, power animal recovery, and psychopomp. She also offers real estate clearance, Reiki, and flower essence services.
The fundamental element of all Blackwood services is energy. She said everyone has energy areas that can be blocked by negative experiences.
“Energy is really all about frequency and vibration, and whether we’re carrying or holding really intense, heavy, dense energies like sadness, sadness, anger, worry, anxiety, etc. “When we are experiencing them, the frequencies and vibrations of those energies are dense and low enough that they lodge in our systems and crystallize,” Blackwood said. “It starts to feel like a hole you can’t get out of.”
Blackwood’s cleansing services aim to remove these heavy, crystallized energies from a person’s energy field in order to free the individual from these negative emotions.
Blackwood said the majority of his clients are often facing difficult life changes, such as illness, the loss of a loved one or the end of a relationship.
Blackwood uses the positive energies of various natural elements, including crystals, as part of its healing services.
Tucson is home to one of the world’s premier gem and mineral shows, which began in 1955 as a simple presentation by a small group of geologists, according to Visit Tucson. This event attracts visitors from all over the world, including many alternative healers and spiritual healers who purchase crystals and minerals for their collection.
Mineral Masterpiece gemologist Tom Spann was one of the many vendors at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show.
In Spann’s experience, customers interested in metaphysical properties primarily buy gemstones rather than minerals.

“If you look at the preserved literature from 1,000 years ago, it’s almost always about jewelry and people who wore it for protection and health,” Spann said.
Span carries a variety of gemstones and minerals, including quartz, aquamarine, calcite, and the world’s largest turquoise formation.
Spann recalls one particular incident when a spiritual healer came in with her crystal and carefully held it over the specimen she was interested in before choosing.
According to Spann, spiritual healers can gain insight into a particular situation or decision by asking a pendulum crystal a yes or no question and seeing which direction it begins to rotate. I often use these pendulum crystals. Crystals work differently for different people. Typically, if it swings clockwise or counterclockwise in a circular motion, it means “yes,” and if it swings back and forth, it means “no.”
Spann himself isn’t interested in the metaphysical properties of the gemstones he sells, but he said some of his best customers have purchased stones for spiritual purposes.
Felice Dianna, another spiritual healer, has been working as a spiritual healer for over 6 years. Unlike Blackwood, Deanna focuses on healing directly among people, without the aid of crystals or other metaphysical mediums.
Deanna works out of an office on Tucson’s east side and offers three different types of healing services: Reiki, reflexology, and massage therapy. Reiki is a type of energy healing that originated in Japan. This process involves the practitioner directing the client’s energy flow, clearing negative energy, and reducing stress.
By comparison, reflexology is one of Deanna’s more hands-on approaches, applying pressure to specific points on a client’s feet and hands to promote relaxation and healing.
Deanna prefers not to incorporate inanimate objects into her healing sessions as she believes that energy must be transferred directly from the healer’s hands to the client. All of her services are aimed at reducing stress and pain and promoting health through prayer and the transmission of positive energy.
If energy healing isn’t what you’re looking for, psychic services such as astrological insights, spiritual life coaching, and tarot readings are also available in Tucson.
David Pujol is a junior at the University of Arizona studying journalism. Pujol has been practicing alternative therapies for over six years. He offers services ranging from crystal healing to tarot cards and psychic readings.
Regardless of the type of service, he believes that alternative therapies have capabilities that medical therapies do not.
“I think more people should embrace and explore alternative treatments, even if it’s for something as simple as a headache,” Pujol said. “It helps you heal on a level that most people have never engaged with.”
Pujol does not have a formal studio. Instead, he brings his cards and crystals to class and offers readings to those interested. He does most of his reading at his UA School of Journalism, which charges him between $1 and $5 per service.
Whether you’re a yoga master, landscape admirer, meditation expert, or simply a visitor looking for a new activity to try, Tucson’s metaphysical world has what you’re looking for.
