Selena Gomez regrets not “seeking help” for her mental health when she was younger.
The 31-year-old star has been open and honest about her mental health struggles in recent years, and Selena now regrets not seeking professional help sooner.
The brunette beauty, who revealed she’d been diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2020, told People magazine, “It’s okay to ask for help. It’s really important to feel comfortable. I wish I’d sought help when I was younger.”
Selena launched her Rare Beauty brand in celebration of Mental Health Awareness Week, and the company is now rolling out a new campaign encouraging people to “call someone you miss or who just wants to hear from you.”
In a promotional video, Selena explains: “If you’re feeling lonely, you’re not alone. One in four people report feeling lonely, and this Mental Health Awareness Month, Rare Beauty is encouraging everyone to make a good phone call – literally.”
“Studies have shown that hearing a soothing voice can actually lift your mood in a way that a text message can’t. So pick up the phone and call someone you love. Call someone you haven’t spoken to in a while. Or call someone whose voice just brings you comfort.”
Earlier this year, Selena claimed she was on a “mission” with her brand, Rare Beauty.
The actress founded a cosmetics company in 2020 and is proud of her brand’s contribution to raising mental health awareness.
“I didn’t really want to get into the cosmetics industry without a real mission,” Selena said at the TIME 100 Summit.
Selena considers Rare Beauty her “pride and joy.”
The actress also revealed that she is still committed to the venture and has no plans to leave Rare Beauty anytime soon.
Selena, who is dating record producer Benny Blanco, explained, “I don’t think I’m going anywhere. I’m just having too much fun with this.”
