When you have three young children, a dog, a cat, and you’re not the most tidy person yourself, keeping your home smelling good can be very difficult. Of course, I’m speaking from experience, but even NEET enthusiasts without children or pets want their homes to be comfortable and inviting. Unwanted odors are almost counterproductive and can have many causes. So when I came across the Pura diffuser, I was intrigued.
There are several ways to make your home smell nice, including air purifiers, candles, essential oil diffusers, and sprays, but I have yet to find one that works for me. Mainly because I work from home. I honestly don’t even know if my living room smells like dog breath or a toddler’s diaper because I rarely leave the house.
I saw an ad for the Pura Diffuser, a smart scent diffuser that you can control from your phone, and bought it that day.
Here are my thoughts on the Pura diffuser.
What is Pura Smart Fragrance Diffuser?
What happens to look a lot like a smoke detector is actually the latest smart home device to properly smell your home. The Wi-Fi-enabled Pura Smart Fragrance Diffuser plugs into any standard outlet and releases scents all day long. The scent comes from a fragrance cartridge designed for use only with Pura diffusers.
You can have two cartridges in at once, so you can switch up scents throughout the day. All diffuser settings are controlled through a smartphone app (available from Apple and Google Play).
The Pura diffuser can also connect to Alexa, so you can adjust Pura’s settings using voice control.

Fragrances alternate

Pura includes two different scents at the same time, and you can switch between them at will based on your schedule or via the app.
What I was really excited about about the Pura diffuser is that you can alternate between the two scent cartridges throughout the day. You can start with one scent in the morning and program it via the companion app to switch to another scent later in the day, or switch back and forth.
This means your nose will never get completely used to either and you’ll always get a nice scent.
Choose from designer fragrances such as Pink Jasmine, Velvet Wineberry (which I love), Golden Mimosa, Vanilla Chiffon, Apple Orchard, Pink Peony, and Silk. We also have seasonal scents such as pumpkin chai and holiday.
In addition to Pula’s original scents, we also offer scents from popular fragrances such as Capri Blue, Nest, and Paddy Wax.
The strength of the scent is adjustable

Pura users can adjust the intensity of each scent in the app, and the settings are remembered each time Pura is started.
Candles and air fresheners tend to give me headaches, so I like that I can adjust the intensity of each scent in the Pura app. If you have a favorite scent that doesn’t give you a headache, turn it up and it will always emit that scent at the level you choose. If there’s something else that tends to overwhelm me, I program it to stay very low when it’s turned on.
I set up my Pura diffuser according to a schedule I set in the Pura app. Wake up to the scent of velvet wineberries. The scent lasts for 1 hour and then disappears.
After a few hours, the Pura diffuser switches to the second scent, Vanilla Chiffon. This is also set to run for 1 hour. Then, after a few hours, the scent changes back to velvet wineberry and then back to vanilla chiffon by bedtime.
Pura diffusers don’t run all day long, but they do add a little more scent during times when you know people will be in your living area. Pura plugs into the wall and doubles up as a night light, so you don’t have to overload your electrical outlets. Through the app, you can choose your favorite color and adjust the brightness of the nightlight.
Comes with useful smart features
The Pura Smart Fragrance Diffuser is technically a smart home gadget, so it doesn’t have a ton of options or a cluttered interface like many smart home products. However, the features it provides are very useful.
The Pura app is very easy to manage and allows you to easily create custom schedules.
The app also has a location tracking feature called Away Mode, which when enabled will automatically turn off the diffuser when you leave the house. It’s smart, but not annoyingly smart. It has the right amount of features to make it a useful device in your daily life.
If you enable the Pura Skill for Alexa, it also works with Alexa voice control. You can use a nearby Echo speaker or the Alexa app to turn on the living room diffuser or ask it to set the living room diffuser to blue (or any other color).
what we don’t like
Fragrance is an additional charge
This is not a complaint, but be aware that you will have to repurchase once the scent wears off. Scent refills start at around $16 and go up in price from there.
One refill cartridge will last approximately 2 weeks when run at Level 5 intensity for approximately 8 hours per day.
Should I buy a Pura diffuser?
Yes, it’s a great way to keep the air in your home smelling good.
As a former smart home editor at Reviewed, I love smart home products here, and the Pura Smart Fragrance Diffuser is one of the few that actually improves the atmosphere of your home. It’s well worth the continued investment.
