Flower therapy, or essence therapy, is a type of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). It is based on the idea that flowers have healing vibrational energy.

This practice uses flower essences, which are liquids infused with flower energy. Also called flower remedy.

Modern flower essences were created by British physician Edward Bach in the 1930s. According to Bach, flower energy can balance emotions. He believed this would bring about mental, physical and spiritual health.

Today, people use flower essences for the same purpose. Essences can be purchased in stores or obtained from an essence therapist.

There is some evidence that flower remedies may relieve anxiety and pain. It is also thought to improve immunity, depression, and various mental illnesses, but science is lacking.

If you want to know more about this type of herbal medicine, keep reading. Explore the potential benefits of flower essences and how to use them.

Flower essences and essential oils are often confused. Both solutions are made from plants, but the methods of preparation are very different.

Here’s how to make flower essences:

  1. The flowers are soaked in natural spring water.
  2. Boil the water or put it in the sun. It is said that when exposed to sunlight, the energy of the flower is drawn out.
  3. Filter that water and save it with the brandy. The finished essence does not include any flower parts.

You can use the same method to create essences from non-flowering plants and crystals. It can also be made without alcohol.

Essential oils, on the other hand, are concentrated liquids of plant compounds. Here’s how to make it:

  1. A collection of plant flowers, leaves, fruits, bark, etc. One bottle of essential oil often requires several pounds of plant material.
  2. Aromatic compounds are extracted by steaming, distilling, or pressing plant materials.
  3. The extracted “oil” is not actually an oil and may be mixed with a carrier oil.

Scientific research on flower essences is lacking. The available research on potential benefits includes:

Flower essences for anxiety

Flower essences may help with anxiety.in 2020 survey, flower therapy reduced children’s anxiety at the dentist’s office. An older study from 2012 found similar effects in adults with moderate anxiety.

moreover, 2017 case report Bach flower remedies have been found to reduce anxiety in menopausal women.

according to 2008 review, flower essences provide energy to balance your emotions. However, the above studies do not mention exactly how energy works. There is also no scientific evidence that this energy exists.

This purported benefit requires further study.

Flower essences for pain

in 2017 survey, Bach flower remedy has been reported to relieve pain associated with carpal tunnel syndrome. Participants applied flower essence cream to the affected area.

Research shows that the essence may have biological properties that help with numbness. But again, this study does not provide a rigorous scientific explanation.

elder 2008 survey I also found that Bach flower remedies reduce pain. Researchers say the therapy helped participants focus on their mental health rather than their physical pain. They also acknowledged that believing in flower therapy was a factor.

In theory, if flower essences can reduce anxiety, they could also help with pain. That’s because, according to some researchers, anxiety increases the perception of pain. 2019 report. Still, more detailed research is needed to confirm the benefits of essence for pain.

Flower essences are generally considered safe because they are diluted solutions. However, like any other treatment, essences can also cause unwanted side effects.

Experts say this may include:

According to flower therapy, these side effects can occur when flower essences “awaken” your emotions. The effects are said to wear off within a day.

Most flower essences also contain trace amounts of alcohol. Most doctors say it’s safe if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, but It’s still better to be careful. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your doctor first or use an alcohol-free version.

There are several ways to use flower essences at home.

Verbally

Flower essences can be mixed with other liquids such as water. You can also ingest the liquid directly by placing it on or under your tongue.

Some flower essences are also available in the form of consumables:

Apply the skin cream as you would any other topical product. To treat pain, you can apply creams to specific areas.

We also have flower essence bath salts. Bath salts are dissolved in warm water during a bath or shower.

A flower essence therapist or practitioner can provide flower essences.

You can also purchase your own below.

Flower essence services are offered by a variety of providers, including:

To find a provider, search online for “flower essence therapists near me.” If you already work with one of the above practitioners, you can also ask if they offer flower therapy.

Please note that there is no formal regulation of the practice of essence therapy. Because there are many different types of certifications, the training content also varies widely.

Be sure to look into the provider’s other qualifications and experience, and read reviews if possible. Please feel free to ask any questions regarding training.

During your appointment, your therapist will want to learn about your feelings and specific issues. It will suggest recommended essences based on your personality and current challenges.

Flower essences are a type of herbal medicine used in flower therapy. It is believed to contain the vibrational energy of flowers that improves negative thoughts and emotions.

Some research suggests that flower essences may relieve anxiety and pain, but more research is needed. Although it is usually harmless to use, most products contain trace amounts of alcohol. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, use the alcohol-free version.

Flower essences can be purchased at health food stores and herbal medicine stores. As with any treatment, follow the instructions on the product packaging.
