There was a time when Peter Jackson wanted to forget it all Lord of the Ring.
The film director said: The Hollywood Reporters Awards On a podcast this week, he said he’d “seriously considered” using hypnosis to forget all about his work on Oscar-winning films, and for good reason: He wanted to watch them like a regular fan would, enjoying a single, unspoiled viewing experience.

It was a huge loss for me not to be able to watch it like everyone else. I actually seriously considered going to a hypnotherapist and getting hypnotized so I could forget about the movie and the work I’d been doing for the last six or seven years, and just sit back and enjoy the movie. I never did, but… [British mentalist] I spoke to Derren Brown about it and he thought it could be done.”
Despite Brown’s optimism, it seems unlikely such an effort would work, given the years Jackson has spent relentlessly trying to perfect every detail of the trilogy, which sounds a bit like the premise of an Apple TV+ workplace sci-fi drama. Severance pay.
But Jackson said Amazon The Lord of the Rings: The Ring of Power Jackson has not undergone hypnosis and is looking forward to watching the show for that very reason. (Jackson says that Amazon Studios asked him to be a part of the new show and said they would send him the script, but then he never heard anything back.)
Jackson’s trilogy has grossed nearly $3 billion worldwide and won 10 Academy Awards, and he’s up for another award this season for his Beatles documentary. returnIt was nominated for five Emmy Awards.
The Lord of the Rings: The Ring of Power It follows the forging of the original Rings of Power that allowed the Dark Lord Sauron to spread evil across Middle-earth during the Second Age. Set thousands of years before the events of Jackson’s trilogy, the show will premiere on Prime Video on September 2nd.
