Orlando, Florida – When Joseph Sivori moved to Florida more than 10 years ago, he wasn’t aware of the mental health resources available to Orlando’s gay community.
It wasn’t until he underwent trauma therapy a few years ago that he realized the great benefits of counselling.
“It was like turning on a floodlight in a room with only one light bulb. I finally began to understand why I did what I did,” Sibori said.
Sivori said his experience prompted him to start Beacon Health, a nonprofit that plans to provide free mental health services to the LGBTQ community in Central Florida starting in August.

Sivori said people will be able to call the hotline to make an appointment if they need one, after which they may be provided with a referral.
“A place for the community to come and feel safe, feel supported, get the services they need and be referred to other services if we can’t provide them,” Sivori said.
Interns from the University of Central Florida will also help provide the services.
Beacon Health will be hosting a fundraising event inside the Deer Creek Village Clubhouse on June 29. More information on how to donate can be found here.
