N Nagarajan, assistant doctor at Madurai General Hospital, advised that students of the Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Science (BNYS) programme should strive to become IAS officers to take policy decisions for furthering science.
He was the guest of honour at the prize-giving ceremony of a national-level yoga competition among BNYS students from various colleges, held at Perundurai Kongu Naturopathy and Yogic Medicine College on the occasion of World Yoga Day on Tuesday. College correspondent A Venkatachalam and principal Dr C Pratap Singh presided over the ceremony.
In his address, he said some of the students would become clinicians while others would become academics.
But whatever it may be, students will be required to participate in research activities to further improve and document the health care system.
At the same time, they should aspire to become IAS officers to take policy decisions.
Another guest of honour, Dr M Muthukumar, appealed to the students to study the subject thoroughly as many people are trying to make money by promoting naturopathy and yogic science under various names and advising people online to cure ailments like infertility and to earn an income.
Even IT people are interfering in our field like this.
Therefore, BNYS students should be more cautious about becoming masters in their subjects.
Dr S Sujata, Chief Medical Officer, Aishwariyam Nature Cure Hospital and Yoga Centre spoke about the unique features of the yoga system.
Vice Principal Dr. Rajaratnam delivered the vote of thanks.
