Life can be noisy, but many of us are used to drowning it out.
But for Nashville residents Casey Lane, it’s all about embracing sound, how it affects our bodies, and improving our overall well-being through one of the fastest growing health and wellness trends: sound healing. Layne spoke with us about her work, the benefits of sound healing, and her hopes for sound healing’s impact on the Nashville community and beyond.
First interest: I had some experiences with crystals that really started me down the energy healing rabbit hole. Specifically, in 2018 I was called to purchase Uma Silvey’s book “The Ultimate Guide to Crystals and Stones” at High Garden (a great tea shop in East Nashville that was destroyed by the 2020 tornado). I did. It included several different exercises for experiencing the energy of crystals that really worked. Once I had the experience of physically feeling the crystal energy in an undeniable way, I was hooked. Wanting to learn more, I eventually qualified as a crystal healer and within a year purchased my first crystal bowl.
Business growth: My journey into this field began when I first moved to Nashville. I earned a degree in music from the University of Virginia and worked full time as a musician while living in New York, playing in various bands and teaching private music lessons. So I was able to write music almost whenever I felt the urge. After moving to Nashville, I landed my first job in public relations and had to put my creativity on the back burner for the first time in my life. Things became even more difficult because I had to schedule time in my calendar to write letters with my producer (now my fiancé). To get the proper headspace with these new parameters, I’m using techniques like Transcendental Meditation or more general sound meditation to help slow down my brainwave state a bit and allow creative thoughts to flow in. , I started exploring different types of meditation techniques. The tools have been extremely helpful not only to my creativity, but also to my overall health. All of this happened around the same time that I was finishing up my Crystal Healing Certification and ended up spending the next 18 months studying at the International Sound Healing Academy Level 1 and Level 1 in order to learn more. I will be taking 2nd diploma training. Because of the rigor of the certification process, by the time I finished my Level 2 training, I felt ready to take my side hustle to full-time. I work with all types of people, but a big focus for me is helping other musicians and artists who are having creative blocks or performance anxiety.
Basics: Sound and Crystal Healing is a vibrational healing technique based on the fact that at a cellular level our bodies are made of vibration, or sound. Each of our tissues and organs has its own unique vibrational frequency, and we love to imagine that the different sounds in our bodies work together to create a beautiful symphony. When we experience illness or unwellness, some of these vibrations become out of tune. So we can use powerful frequencies such as sound healing devices and crystals to bring things back into harmony. My sound healing practice is the main focus of my work and my personal favorite part. There are many ways to work with sound to bring peace to your life. I work with her in both one-on-one sessions and in groups ranging from two people to her 102 people. My specialty in this area is crystal singing bowls. This creates gorgeous, pure frequencies that you feel in your body as much as you hear in your ears. Those frequencies trigger a relaxation response in the body, calming the nervous system and improving mood, focus, clarity, sleep, and more.
What to expect: My 1-1 sessions are typically 90 minutes long, with the first 30 minutes set aside for you to drink herbal tea and talk about what is present in your life. Typically, people book sessions during their transition period. It’s when you need clarity about an aspect of your life, or when you just want balance. The discussion portion of the session is extremely valuable and provides a floor for clients to share what is on their minds without judgment. . Upon entering the session, clients lie on an inframat covered with heated crystals, which emit infrared heat, aid circulation and inflammation, and supply negative ions to the system. Then, while they relax with an eye mask on, I scan their energy field for any centers that feel imbalanced and facilitate some hands-on Reiki. Next, balance the field by playing the Himalayan Bowl, Practitioner Vibrapoint Touch Bowl, or a weighted tuning fork directly over your body. As you move through each energy center, place the crystals down to create a crystal grid. Once the grid is in place, we’ll do a 15-20 minute personalized sound bath for integration while playing crystal singing bowls. Once the crystal bowl time has passed, rescan the field and remove the crystal. I quietly bring the client back into the room and then we talk for 10-20 minutes about what they experienced (visions, memories, messages) and my interpretation of their energy field. At the end, I always send a follow-up email with a photo of my own Crystal His grid and recommendations for maintaining balance between sessions.
Sound softens everything: Everyone can benefit from sound healing. Our nervous system is highly sensitive to sound. Think about the adrenaline rush you get when you hear a sound that startles you. From morning alarms to email notifications at work, spending time listening to relaxing sounds can be extremely beneficial to counteract the stressors we encounter on a daily basis. That being said, the biggest benefit of sound healing is stress reduction, which is a big deal considering stress is the number one root cause of major chronic illnesses and illnesses. Besides stress, some common issues that can be helped and addressed with sound healing include sleep issues, creativity blocks, concentration, and even pain relief. The benefits of a sound bath or one-on-one session with her extend far beyond the time we spend together. People usually feel a sense of peace, balance, and relaxation that lasts for hours and even days after a breakup. (kaycelaine.com)
