Beauty savvy Reddit users explained that they were seeing severe lines, wrinkles and premature aging on their lips.
They admitted that they had “not regularly used sunscreen or lip balm on their lips for over 20 years.”
They recalled “long days on the beach in the sun” without hats to protect their faces.
But after years of neglect, she was able to transform the look of her lips with “light chemical exfoliation and a dermaroller.”
Chemical exfoliation is the process of using acids to remove dead skin cells, while dermarolling is another name for microneedling.
Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that uses thin needles to create tiny holes in the top layer of skin.
It helps small cuts heal faster and promotes collagen production and blood flow.
With a dermaroller, you can do this either in the office or at home, although some experts don’t recommend the latter.
“I randomly came across a video about dermarolling and decided to try it on my lips,” the Reddit user explained. “It worked wonders.”
Beauty pros also shared their favorite chemical exfoliants.
“Occasionally I’ll exfoliate my lips with a little glycerin and Good Molecules Overnight Exfoliating Treatment,” they say.
I was advised to mix the two ingredients together so that it wouldn’t be too harsh on the lips.
Good Molecules Overnight Exfoliating Treatment retails for just $6.
“My lips are like night and day,” they said excitedly.
In the same thread, other skincare-minded Reddit users also shared their tips for youthful looking lips.
“Hydration helps,” one person wrote. “Apply hyaluronic acid to your lips, then Vaseline.”
“I’ve noticed that when I choose a lip product that’s close to my natural lip color, the lines look less noticeable,” says another.
“I still wear bright reds sometimes, but I have to be really careful because the pigment settles into wrinkles.”
