acupuncture – A well-known alternative therapy is acupuncture. This therapy originates from ancient China and has been practiced for thousands of years. Acupuncturists believe that illness and ailments are caused by imbalances in cosmic energy. Our bodies have invisible channels through which Yin and Yang energy flow. These two opposing forces are constantly merging, but can also become imbalanced. The body’s energy network contains specific acupressure points that are linked to various organs and bodily functions. Acupuncture involves inserting needles into the subcutaneous connective tissue at these very specific acupressure points to balance, slow down or stimulate specific energies, bringing about healing.
Ayurveda – Ayurveda is an ancient healing system that originated in India. The word Ayurveda is made up of two words, Ayur, meaning life, and Veda, meaning knowledge. Ayurveda is a natural healing system that balances the body by balancing the three basic life forces in the body known as Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Ayurveda teaches living in harmony with nature and harnessing the body’s ability to heal itself. Apart from herbal remedies, Ayurveda also uses techniques such as meditation, breathing exercises, and yoga.
Reiki – Reiki is an energy therapy that originated in Tibet and Japan. The word Reiki means universal life energy. Reiki was rediscovered in Japan in the 19th century by Dr. Mikao Usui in Kyoto and named it Reiki. Reiki is very simple, it works by placing hands on different parts of the body, energy centers, giving life energy to all organs. During a Reiki session, the practitioner does not use his own energy, but acts as a channel, using his hands to direct the universal energy to the recipient. Reiki brings harmony and physical, emotional, mental and spiritual balance to the body, resulting in healing.
Natural remedies – Naturopathy, as the name suggests, is an alternative therapy that uses only natural methods to aid the human body in healing itself. Therapeutic modalities such as herbal medicine, color therapy, ozone therapy, reflexology, massage therapy, etc., fall under the category of naturopathy.
