May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and because conversations about mental health are important, I wanted to take this opportunity to share some of the resources available to you at Excelsior.
Excelsior Springs Hospital The Psychiatric Department offers a variety of resources. We employ care coordinators, counselors, therapists, psychiatrists and a variety of other professionals, and as a team we are ready to help those in need. Demand for care is high, so seeking help based on your needs will ensure you receive care at the right time. Outpatient services are offered Monday through Friday (extended as needed) by providers. Services are available for all ages, all mental illness diagnoses, and are available by internal or external referral. Our phone number is 816.629.3551.
Beacon Mental Health Another option for residents. Located at 1087 N Italian Way, it operates by referral or appointment. It offers a wide range of services, including psychiatric services, support groups and rehabilitation. Appointments are accepted Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The phone number is 816.468.6635.
Another great resource is Psychology Today website. The website allows you to search for therapists near you. Not only that, but you can also see their photos, qualifications, and the types of therapy they specialize in. You can also refine your search to fit your specific needs by selecting the gender, insurance coverage, age, faith, race, sexual orientation, language, and more of your preferred therapist. The website also shows you if a therapist offers virtual sessions.
