JAIPUR: Following negative feedback regarding the taste of food being distributed as part of the Poshahar scheme at Anganwadi centres across the state, the Women and Child Development Department is considering changing the recipes of the food. Officials said a committee has been formed to look into the issue and suggest new food items where nutritional value will be maintained. The department received feedback that many children are not eating food at Anganwadi centres due to lack of taste. In 2022, the department has launched a new system of quality nutrition, providing cooked meals with a mix of different nutrients thrice a week to children aged 3-6 years in Anganwadis. The cooked meals include fortified sweet daliya, fortified moong dal khichudi, fortified plain wheat daliya, fortified premix food, upma premix, sweet rice crisps, salty rice crisps etc. “We have learnt from anganwadi workers that children do not like the taste of sweet rice crisps, daliya, upma and khichdi. “These foods were selected keeping in mind the different types of nutrients that children can consume, but as they have taste preferences, we plan to change some of the recipes,” said a senior official of the department. Officials said the committee will work with nutritionists and medical health experts to make the changes. “The taste and recipes of foods served in neighbouring states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat are being studied,” the official added. Officials also said they are looking to incorporate vegetables, dairy fats like ghee etc to enhance the taste of the food. The changes have been made in 2022 with an aim to provide food in such a form that only children and pregnant women can get the nutritional benefits.
