May is Mental Health Month, and Knoxville Hospital and Clinics continues to recognize the importance of mental health care.
Mental Health Awareness Month continues to be a cornerstone in addressing the challenges faced by millions of Americans living with a mental health diagnosis. Knoxville Hospital and Clinics is prioritizing mental health care in the ongoing renovation of its emergency department, providing as safe a space as possible for people in a mental health crisis until they can receive appropriate treatment. KHC CEO Kevin Kincaid said the way mental health is approached has changed dramatically over the years, and KHC now views mental health like any other serious medical condition.
“Someone with a mental illness is entirely a medical issue, just like a heart attack or a broken leg. That’s very different from how we used to think. Medically, mental illness is seen as just like any other illness or injury that we’re dealing with. We don’t make that distinction anymore.”
Today on “Let’s Talk Knoxville,” Kevin Kincaid shares more about Mental Health Awareness Month.
