NEW DELHI: Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC) will next week inaugurate a faculty of integrated medicine that will provide treatment services from Ayurveda and other streams of AYUSH to patients. Dr Subhash Giri, director of the institute, told this newspaper that they plan to start OPD in AYUSH treatment from Monday onwards.
“An integrative medicine unit will be started at Sucheta Kripalani Hospital. For this, an agreement was signed between LHMC and the Central Council for Ayurvedic Scientific Research (CCRAS) of the Union Ministry of AYUSH a few days ago,” he said. Ta.
He said an entire floor of the OPD block has been given to AYUSH experts and doctors to run the new department which will combine allopathy, Ayurveda, naturopathy and yoga to treat patients with chronic diseases.
“There are many health complications such as joint pain and chest conditions that cannot be completely cured with allopathic medicines and result in lifelong illnesses. It can be treated by a therapeutic doctor,” Dr. Giri said.
However, the move has faced resistance from faculty members who say the initiative is unnecessary and oppose assigning duties to modern medicine doctors, especially in new departments.
“We are aware that there is resistance among some members. However, we would like to make it clear that nothing is being forced. Things are not yet finalized. AYUSH practitioners , we do not impose our methodology on physicians. We expect everyone to work in harmony to improve patient care,” Giri clarified.
