Obviously, I’m not a very relaxed person, in fact I’m quite neurotic. morning I’m a Virgo, so relaxing is something I struggle with. When things get too hectic during the day, I have plenty of ways to de-stress: enjoying lots of hobbies, cuddling and walking my dog, drinking tea, etc. But at night, it’s hard to just lie in bed and rest my head, especially with the pandemic spreading, the economy tanking, and all of our sense of normalcy disappearing. Lately, I’ve been feeling more stressed than I’ve felt in a long time. this Stress is neither productive nor healthy.
To help me wind down at night, I tried taking longer showers, lighting candles, meditating, doing lots of face masks, journaling, but my pre-bed routine was getting longer and longer every night. I knew I needed to streamline this multi-step pre-bed process somehow, especially since it wouldn’t be sustainable once I returned to my normal work life. Luckily, I found a potion that helped me fall asleep faster than any mask or meditation could. I don’t know why I got a sample of this aromatherapy mist at work and brought it home (it feels like ages ago now). Not that I’d ever been particularly interested in aromatherapy before. Anyway, as soon as I remembered I had it, I dug it out from the depths of my tote bag full of samples. I decided to give this a try instead of lighting a candle like I usually do before my nightly shower, because it’s less precious (and less expensive) than the Boy Smells, Diptyque, and Nest candles I use frequently. I now use it in place of candles during shower time.
Following the instructions on the bottle, I sprayed the aromatherapy mist before I got in the shower. A few sprays filled the entire shower with the wonderful scent of orange, lavender, and sandalwood. The label says to spray 2-3 times, but after nearly a month of use, I found that I prefer a stronger scent, so about 10 sprays would be better. I also feel refreshed while I’m in the shower, because the longer I shower, the more the scent spreads throughout the bathroom. If I close my eyes and focus on the scent (which is said to be a natural relaxing ingredient), it helps to distract me from everything else and calm me down. I think of the beach, a walk outside, or a happy time. It’s just as relaxing as taking a bath, without the effort it takes to actually take a bath. create Relaxing baths — Finding the perfect combination of bath salts, water, and scents is an art, but one I don’t always have the time or patience for. Also, my bathtub is a bit too small for my 5-foot-9 stature, so finding a way to sit comfortably is another element that doesn’t feel like too much of a hassle.
After using this spray, you step out of the shower and your entire bathroom is filled with a pleasant aroma. It takes much less time to create this ambiance than lighting a candle or taking a bath. Plus, unlike candles, the scent spreads all over your body. But the best part is that the scent lingers in your bathroom long after your shower, so you get twice the scent while you go through your skincare routine. Then you lie down in bed feeling more relaxed than after your previous routine. Of course, this aromatherapy mist won’t change the world, but with everyone feeling stressed, the little bit of peace and calm this spray brings is well worth it.
