Popular Australian nutritionist Sepel founded JSHealth to combat fad diets with evidence-based supplements and advice.
Jessica Sepel has built a powerful global community of hundreds of thousands of dedicated followers who turn to her for best practices and comprehensive information on health and nutrition.
Before founding JSHealth Vitamins in 2018, Sepel, who has more than 500,000 followers on Instagram, was already a certified clinical nutritionist and had written three best-selling books outlining her philosophies for healthy living.
“My interest in supplements began as a child, watching my grandparents and parents take vitamins every day,” Sepel told Athletics News. “I became fascinated with the idea of using supplements to maintain health. As a teenager, I worked in health food stores and pharmacies, where I deeply researched the ingredients and benefits of different formulas. Every product we make is truly tied to helping the JSHealth community live their best, healthiest, and balanced lives.”
The first formula Sepel created for JSHealth was the Hair + Energy capsules, which are now the brand’s best-seller.
JSHealth sells supplements that address skin care and hair care concerns, as well as more general supplements like collagen and protein. Consumers can shop based on their goals, such as hormone balance, mental health, gut health, etc. The JSHealth app is also free and provides users with workouts, recipes, vitamin reminders, and more.
While working in private practice as a nutritionist, Sepel realized what was missing in the supplement industry.
“I became more involved with what women in particular were going through in terms of their health,” she said. “Once I heard what the community needed, I decided to create it. It’s kind of a beautiful coincidence that we have this whole line of targeted formulas. It was a really organic extension of my purpose to make a difference in people’s lives.”
One of JSHealth’s main goals is to combat fad diets and unhealthy attitudes towards nutrition.
“With so much marketing promoting quick-fix diet solutions, it’s easy to get caught up in trends that don’t work,” Sepel points out. “More than 80% of dieters regain the weight within five years. Not only can these yo-yo dieting cycles be ineffective and counterproductive in the long term, they can also negatively impact your relationship with food, leading to stress, guilt, and unhealthy eating habits.”
Sepel is passionate about the quality of his supplements’ ingredients.
“The first two elements have always been care and science,” she said. “We make every effort to ensure our supplements contain only the highest quality ingredients, and only forms of these ingredients that are backed by research. With this in mind, we source our ingredients accordingly and subject them to rigorous testing to meet strict GMP standards. As an Australian brand, we actually have the highest standards in the world when it comes to supplements.”
Sepel incorporates a holistic approach to nutrition and wellness into her daily life, and she believes that developing a healthy relationship with food and moving away from restrictive diets is the first step to nutritional success.
“I enjoy eating a balanced diet and cook all kinds of foods. I love leafy greens, nutrient-rich whole grains, lean proteins like chicken and salmon, and a variety of fruits and vegetables,” she says. “When it comes to daily supplementation habits, recognizing and respecting your unique health needs and goals is the foundation of creating a habit that works best for you — it’s not a one-size-fits-all approach.”
But Sepel takes three supplements every day and says he would “recommend it to anyone who wants to invest in themselves.”
“These are high-quality probiotics, magnesium and fish oil,” she said.
Sepel also practices a daily morning wellness routine that helps her succeed.
“In the morning, I always spend a few minutes doing deep belly breathing to ground myself for the day ahead,” she explains. “This helps me feel centered, connected, and calm my nervous system. I repeat my favorite positive phrases and focus on what I’m grateful for. Saying things like ‘Everything is going well’ or ‘I’m so grateful for all that I have today’ can help keep me in a positive frame of mind and lead to deeper feelings of gratitude that I can carry with me throughout the day.”
“I also try to avoid technology – that means at least 30-40 minutes after waking up before checking social media, text messages or emails,” she added. “This digital detox is the first step to waking up refreshed and ready to start the day with a clear mind.”
JSHealth is looking to expand globally beyond the Australian market, and with new product launches on the horizon, Sepel is excited about the future of the brand.
“We just keep working hard because the journey is truly the best part,” she said. “We’ve achieved every milestone and found the journey itself more satisfying than ever. As a customer-first company, our goal is to make JSHealth Vitamins the most trusted health brand in the world and help as many people as possible thrive.”
