Last week, Peloton’s holiday ad, which showed a husband gifting his wife a fitness bike, shook the world. Some people found the ad sexist or just plain annoying, sparking a huge debate online. People are divided on the topic of gift-giving fitness-related gifts this holiday season, and have taken to social media to share their experiences after receiving or giving them. Now, NFL Network reporter Jane Slater has taken to Twitter to share her experience catching her ex-husband cheating on her using a Fitbit.
She was responding to a tweet that read, “I bought my wife a Peloton.” [sic] Three years ago. She wasn’t angry.”
“My ex gave me a Fitbit for Christmas and I loved it,” Slater, 38, tweeted. “We synced up and encouraged each other…I didn’t hate it until he disappeared at 4am and his activity levels spiked on the app.”
She ended her tweet with, “I wish this story wasn’t real.”
Slater then followed up her first tweet with another: “Spoiler alert: he wasn’t signed up for Orangetheory class at 4am,” she wrote.
Slater tweeted that she was initially very upset, but friends encouraged her to laugh about it: “My girlfriend once said ‘one day we’ll laugh about this’ while I was crying uncontrollably in the car. Now I’ve laughed about it loads of times, bahahaha.”
Slater’s tweet prompted other followers to share their own experiences.
One woman tweeted: “Jane! My ex found out he was cheating because he was wearing the workout watch and heart rate monitor my mum bought him for Christmas while ‘running’. My heart rate sky rocketed within a minute and I knew it! #prematuresayswhat”
