This year, the number of searches for “healing methods” reached an all-time high. All over the world, we were looking for a way to come back stronger.
We reflected on the difficult times that continued to test our resolve. We remembered those who passed away and thought, “How can we honor them?” We looked within ourselves, explored ways to take care of our mental health, and asked big questions like “how to be ourselves” and “what is my purpose?”
We looked outward and considered how we could help rebuild and strengthen our communities. How we make sustainable choices, how we help Afghan refugees, how we stop anti-Asian hate, and people in need around the world, from communities in India fighting the pandemic to communities in Texas facing severe weather. We looked for ways to help.
We then thought about moving forward, looking for ways to bounce back.
2021 has brought us hope as the world asks, “How can we have hope?” This year was the year that search interest in “COVID-19 vaccine” officially surpassed interest in “COVID-19 testing.” The spike in searches for “coronavirus vaccine near me” came as people were eager to ask when they could visit family or eat at a restaurant.
Just like last year, people continued to look for ways to stay connected and entertained at home (this year, “The Squid Game” took the top spot in searches for TV shows to watch). But we’ve also started on the path back to life outside the home, wondering how to ditch the sweatpants (the top trend search for “how to style…” is “straight leg jeans”). ).
As this year’s comeback draws to a close, we’re digging into trending topics like search, news, people, how-tos, entertainment, trends and more from nearly 70 countries. Search helps you find a world of information. And what people search for can be a window to the world. Explore this year’s trend list at yearinsearch.google/trends.
