A dermatologist who treats stars like Kim Kardashian, Megan Fox and Lady Gaga has issued a warning against a popular skincare trend.
He said beauty treatments could accelerate signs of ageing such as wrinkles and pigmentation.
Dr. Simon Ouran has become the go-to doctor for A-list celebrities since opening his Los Angeles practice in the late 1990s.
The Hollywood Cosmetic Dermatologist’s clients include Nicole Scherzinger, Kylie Jenner and Winnie Harlow.
In an interview with The US Sun, he shared his tips for aging gracefully.

Ourian urged people to avoid skin care hacks that are being circulated on social media.
“For me, the trend that must go is ‘sunscreen contouring,’ where you don’t apply sunscreen to certain parts of your face in order to accentuate your contours,” he said.
“Sunscreen is important not only to prevent problems like wrinkles and pigmentation, but also for your health.”
However, the trend of “skin minimalism”, using only a few products tailored to skin concerns, is likely to remain.
“Simplifying it also helps you stay consistent with your skincare routine, which is so important for it to be effective,” he said.

Ourian revealed that a basic daily routine should include face wash, toner, moisturizer, and sunscreen.
He said sun exposure should always be kept to a minimum, even when wearing protective clothing.
“Reapply sunscreen during the day, wear protective clothing and never use tanning beds,” he said.
“Reversing sun damage is much more complicated than preventing it.”
He found that vitamin C could be beneficial if sun damage has already occurred.

He said it was a “powerful antioxidant” that improved pigmentation and dull skin tone, and protected the skin from free radical damage.
He recommended using it alongside two other ingredients to improve skin conditions.

Ourian said lifestyle habits such as smoking, unhealthy diet, stress and lack of sleep can cause premature ageing.
He said keeping them in sync is key, in addition to using anti-aging skin care products.
“Quality sleep is important for healthy skin,” he says.
“When you sleep, your body repairs itself, and so does your skin.
“It increases blood flow to the skin, encourages collagen rebuilding, helps reduce wrinkles, and combats UV damage.”
“Allowing your skin to undergo these repair cycles promotes a natural radiance and helps prevent common conditions like puffiness and dark circles under the eyes.”
