Famed burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese has revealed the secret to her youthful skin at 51 years old.

She admitted she wishes someone had told her about this skincare secret sooner, but now she can’t live without it.

Dita looks decades younger than her actual age, and there’s a special reason why.

The burlesque queen recently revealed the secret to her flawless skin on the Dumb Blondes podcast.

Like many beauty experts, she extolled the benefits of wearing sunscreen daily and reapplying it frequently.

But that wasn’t the only anti-aging technique she incorporated into her lifestyle.

She argued that sleep habits could be accelerating the aging process without us even realizing it.

“Nobody wants to hear this,” she said during the podcast, adding that she no longer has a monopoly on beauty tips.

“I wish someone had told me when I was younger how good it was to sleep on my back,” she said.

Learning how to sleep took time, and Dita had to retrain herself not to sleep on her side.

She realized that sleeping with her face against the pillow was where certain wrinkles were coming from.

“I taught myself to sleep on my back and it worked miraculously,” she said in an interview.

The correlation between sleeping on your back and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles also has to do with gravity.

Experts at the Sleep Foundation say sleeping on your back promotes spinal alignment, which can reduce heartburn and acid reflux.

While they didn’t say that sleeping on your side reduces fine lines and wrinkles, they did support the theory that sleeping on your side reduces them.

“Sleeping on your side or stomach presses your face into the pillow, and this pressure can lead to the development of fine lines and wrinkles,” the researchers explained.

Dita also practices mindful meditation using the Insight Timer app.

“I lay there like a zombie, eyes closed, palms up, sleeping,” she explained.

She admitted that she would sometimes move during the night, but was aware of it herself because she was a light sleeper.

If, for some reason, you have to sleep on your side, she says, you’ve “gotten better” at positioning your pillow so that your face isn’t pressed into it.

The burlesque icon stressed the importance of taking care of your skin and starting healthy habits early.

“It’s all fun and games until you realize you’re actually losing collagen,” she says.
