According to a September 2020 Bloomberg report, Americans spend an average of $1,200 a year on prescription drugs per person per year, more than any other country in the world.
That’s crazy, according to the Montecito mother and energy healer. Holly Malmsten.
“Despite all the money spent on pharmaceuticals, not only are Americans sicker, more debilitated, more anxious and depressed than ever before in our history, but we’ve become a nation that’s only treating the symptoms and not getting to the root of the problem. The real problem. And the real problem is often at the core of a person, which is the energy that they have,” she explains.
Malmsten is not a traditional energy guru. For one, she has a degree in sociology and a master’s in clinical counseling, meaning she has a traditional “mental wellness background.”
But for Malmsten and her family, traditional methods weren’t enough.
“I was feeling unwell. I was tired all the time so my doctor initially put me on thyroid medication. He said my adrenal glands were stressed and tired.”
That was possible, as Malmsten was raising four young daughters and working as a mental health counselor, keeping her extremely busy. But the medications and supplements prescribed by doctors only maintained her condition, not improved it.
“I realized something needed to change, and I needed to be the change,” so she started the way everyone starts now: with a Google search.
“I had heard about energy healing and energy frequencies but didn’t know much about it and, to be honest, it seemed a little ‘out there’. But I wanted to learn more and find out what it was all about.”
Through her study of the holistic side of health medicine and an intensive nine-month course in energy healing, Malmsten began to discover the root cause of her fatigue and stress: “When you have internal stress in your body, it resonates with low frequency patterns that impact your body’s natural ability to heal and repair, keeping you feeling depressed.”
Malmsten began testing the energy frequencies of his own body and learned that the energy system interconnects the body, mind and soul and can become blocked. “The concept of energy healing has been around for hundreds of years, but ultimately, it is the quality of the body’s energy system that determines your overall state,” says Malmsten.
After discovering this connection, or what she calls her “holy grail,” Malmsten decided to combine her holistic understanding of body, mind and soul with her counseling background in mental health and emotional healing.
She starts by testing your energy systems for blockages, imbalances, or low-frequency patterns with muscle testing, a type of applied kinesiology that has been around since the 1970s.
Malmsten says energy healing is actually quite scientific. “It has a lot to do with quantum physics within the body and tracking energy waves and electrical signals emanating between the nervous system and the brain. Essentially, physicists have discovered that human cells vibrate in Hertz, just like sound waves. Our thoughts, emotions, memories and beliefs affect the quality of our cells’ vibrations which in turn affect the state of our energy system. Common human emotions have already been measured and mapped to indicate the quality of energy generated from specific emotions. Joy is 540 Hertz, while fear is lower, measured at less than 100 Hertz. So when fear is flowing through your body, your body can’t heal itself because it has no fuel to move.”
She further explains, “When low emotional energy is released or blockages are removed, stress mode is switched off and we enter a state of balanced homeostasis.” In this ideal state, our body’s natural healing, repair and recovery mechanisms are turned on. The body then has access to the energy to heal, repair itself and recover from adversity.
“When we are stressed, certain parts of our brains shut down. The creative parts of our brains shut down in favor of ‘flight’ or ‘fight’. This manifests itself in every aspect of our lives.”
“I find that there are two types of clients in my life: those who have experienced a specific traumatic event (such as the Montecito mudslides), and those who, for a variety of reasons, feel unable to move forward in their lives in a healthy and happy way.”
Before Malmsten began using this therapy with her clients, she had her own source of learning: her family. “I first practiced it with children. They would come to me when they were stressed about school or worried about a test. When I did the energy healing, they immediately felt lighter and happier, so I knew it was working on a cellular level.”
The best thing about energy medicine is that it has no side effects, and most importantly, it improves your ability to handle stress in the future.
She now has four daughters, ages 20, 17, 15 and 13, all competitive surfers, and her husband. RyanMalmsten, a real estate agent, is excited to be able to share her energy healing and counseling with others. So how does Malmsten make time for her own self-care while also doing energy healing and caring for her family? “A perfect day for me would be a walk on Butterfly Beach, going surfing with my family, and having fajitas on the patio at Los Arroyos for dinner.
“I love what I do so I really enjoy going to work and helping my clients. I’ve also written a book that simplifies and explains the concepts of energy healing in an easy-to-understand way. I explain how the energy system determines whether a person can heal and overcome adversity.”
