The Hillsborough County Council Parent Teacher Association (HCCPTA) will be holding a Community Health and Welfare Fair on Saturday, April 20th at Brandon High School to inform the community of the options they have for their own care.
Business Sponsorship Chair Debra Vanderveer said HCCPTA wants to ease the burden of finding affordable resources, especially as the cost of treatment increases.
“You can get the information and resources you need. They can point you in the right direction and hopefully alleviate some of the burdens that people are carrying today,” she said.
The fair helps introduce people to free resources offered by Hillsborough County to help individuals and families avoid paying unnecessary and expensive bills.
“I want people to come out of that trade show and say, ‘You know what?’ I didn’t know that resource was available. It would make our lives so much easier,” Vander said. Mr. Via said.
The fair is hosted by nonprofit organizations from across Hillsborough County. Several organizations will be handing out free goods including popsicles, books, water and other donations.
This year, they hope to invite about 300 people. Students also have opportunities to volunteer and perform service activities.
During the event, Kona Ice will be handing out free shaved ice to anyone who brings canned food to the Brandon High School Food Pantry.
This is the first community health and wellness fair hosted by HCCPTA, and Vanderveer said it’s been a learning curve for the volunteer group.
“We can only volunteer as much as our lives allow, but last year we couldn’t afford to do that,” she explained.
Vanderveer said the contributions of volunteers to HCCPTA made this year’s grant-funded event possible.
“I’m already looking at next year and how we can grow this,” she said.
Hillsborough County Council PTA is a volunteer organization dedicated to supporting and strengthening PTAs and PTSAs throughout Hillsborough County. For more information about the Community Health and Wellness Fair and its organization, please visit www.hccptaptsa.org or its Facebook page.
