RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — HCA Virginia is Block party celebration An event promoting healthy living is being held in Richmond on Saturday.
On Saturday, June 15, HCA Virginia hosted a block party at Retreat Doctors Hospital, featuring a panel discussion on mental health, engaging activities and information booths to promote healthy living.
The theme of this year’s gala was “Jubilee – A Celebration Fair Promoting Healthy Living” with a focus on mental health. 8News Weekend Evening Anchor Lorin Wilson moderated a panel discussion centered on the importance of mental health, particularly in the Black community.
Dr. Nancy Boykin, chief operating officer and chief nursing officer at HCA Retreat Doctors Hospital, said all of the exhibitors at the event are committed to mind, health and self-improvement.
“There’s so much stigma surrounding mental health, and we wanted to explore a process that could break down those stereotypes and provide these resources to communities that are struggling,” Dr. Boykin said.
Partners for the event included medical professionals from HCA Virginia, as well as community leaders from HCA Virginia’s Black Colleague Network and WHOA Behavioral Health.
The event also featured music, food and the opportunity to get moving by taking part in yoga, line dancing and hip hop aerobics.
