Greenport Pilates, Yoga & Wellness (308 Front St.) recently opened and aims to help clients improve their health and wellness through mindfulness and exercise.
Michael and Sophia Antoniadis purchased the former bowling alley on Front Street in 2022 and have renovated it into a building that houses three spacious studios, a storefront and even an art space with paintings by local artists adorning the walls.
“Fitness is important both physically and mentally,” says Sophia, who grew up living full-time on the North Fork and visiting her family’s summer home in East Marion.
Sophia started taking yoga classes 10 years ago, and began planning the studio with Michael when their favorite studio closed due to the pandemic in 2020. Greenport Pilates, Yoga & Wellness offers both yoga and Pilates, and Sophia says, “I believe in both. I don’t just do Pilates, and I don’t just do yoga. If you can do yoga twice a week and Pilates twice a week, you’ll stay balanced and healthy.”
The main Pilates studio is equipped with 12 reformers for group classes, color-coded weight springs, personal ballet barres, mats, and other Pilates essentials. A variety of levels means there’s something for everyone. Beginner and Introduction to Pilates classes will help you work your posture, pair exercises, and target the muscles Pilates requires.
Two private Reformer studios offer more personalized instruction, and at the back of the building is a gorgeous open studio for hosting yoga classes, sound baths, and more. With beautiful solid mahogany floors, tree-branch chandeliers, color-changing ceiling lights, and a closet packed with equipment, it’s a yoga lover’s dream.
Jenny Rutkoski, who teaches Vinyasa yoga classes, spoke of her love for the studio.
“I really enjoy coming to work,” Rutkoski said. “It’s such a beautiful place and everyone is so welcoming and friendly. [get to] “I get to know my students well and it’s fun to watch them grow,” says Rutkoski, who is eager to connect with both tourists and locals. “I look forward to meeting new people and sharing my love of health and wellness together.”
Sophia agrees, saying, “One of the great things about Greenport is that it’s a true community village.” She loves interacting with her clients and guiding them to the practice area that’s best for them. She and her staff actively foster relationships with the Greenport community, warmly welcoming both old and newcomers.
“We’re gathering input and ideas from the community that they want and will build on that.” Next steps could include more tai chi, ecstatic dance and sound baths, as well as storytelling hours for children.
“We want the Village of Greenport and the Town of Southold to know that we are here for them,” Sophia said, adding, “We are new to this environment, but please be patient and accept it.”
