Tiffany Noyes and Meranda Saccomano of the Four Corners Community Behavioral Health Department will be keynote speakers at the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce (CCCC) May Luncheon on Mental Health for Employees and Employers. Focused on tips.
Noyes started with some tips to support good mental health. The first is meditation, which she recommends to all her patients. The next step is grounding, which involves putting your bare hands and feet into the soil or grass. This resulted in improvements in swelling, wound healing, time taken to fall asleep, and the quality of sleep itself.
Grounding is also known to reduce pain and stress levels while normalizing your day-night rhythm. The next tip is a simple one: sunlight. There is a clear connection between sunlight and mental health, as sunlight provides vitamin D. Research has shown that low levels of vitamin D increase the risk of depression and anxiety.
Noyes emphasized that these tips are not a substitute for medications or therapy. Finally, Noyes said it’s very important to limit screen time. She emphasized taking breaks and prioritizing mental health. “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,” Noyes said.
Saccomano and Noyce continued their presentation, telling employers that mental health challenges with clear goals, like drinking enough water, taking breaks, and eating healthy, can be fun incentives. Another big factor to consider as an employer is ensuring you support your family.
They said if participants put even one of their advice into practice, tomorrow will be a better day.
