Bruce Alexander Dixon passed away at home on July 16, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was 72 years old and had been battling esophageal cancer for two and a half years. He is also survived by his wife, Kathleen Hogan; son, Keith Dixon;his daughter Caitlin (Dixon) Mason and her husband Will Mason, and Bruce’s first grandchild, Leonore Bell Mason, born July 31. Other survivors include Bruce’s beloved sister, Kathy Goff; her niece Lauren (Goff) Lennox and her husband John and their three children, Logan, Jenna and Lucas; Bruce will be sadly missed by his relatives, patients, and many dear friends across the country.
Bruce was born on April 26, 1951, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Vernon and Alice Dixon. He received his bachelor’s degree in biology from Wake Forest University in North Carolina and his Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine degree from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon in 1979. A longtime Dundee resident, he had a private practice in McMinnville for his 43 years. His son, Keith Dixon ND, took over the practice in 2023.
Bruce served as president of the National College of Naturopathic Medicine, interim president in 1983, preceptor and associate professor. In 2013, he was inducted into the National College of Natural Medicine Hall of Fame for his role in the pursuit of excellence in naturopathic medicine. He also served his community as chairman of the Willamette Valley Cancer Foundation, president of the McMinnville Rotary Club, chairman of the McMinnville Leadership Program, and board member of Henderson House.
Bruce was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed white water rafting, biking, bird watching, and photography. He also cultivated organic ginkgo biloba for use as a health supplement. Bruce traveled avidly and widely with his family and friends and was deeply connected to his Scottish heritage. In the fall of 2022, he took his entire family on a road trip across Scotland.
The Celebration of Life will be held at the Grand McMinn Building, 325 NE Third Street, on Thursday, September 28th from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. In honor of Bruce’s memory, his family suggests donations to the Willamette Valley Cancer Foundation 501(c)(3).
