“Flower Essences: Healing Energy from the Garden” is the theme chosen by Christine Toff for the Exeter Area Garden Club meeting at Stratham Community Church on Thursday, March 18. Throughout the show and explanations, you will learn how these unique essences are made and how they are used to enhance your life.
Refreshments will be provided by hosts Joan Henson (chair), Claire Anderson, Connie Gilmore, Shirley Phillips and Nancy Singleton at 9:30 a.m. Go Green: Please bring a mug.
Many gardeners talk to their plants. Toff believes flowers respond and speak to us in dynamic ways: they thrive, grow spontaneously, and blossom in response to our care and needs.
Special potions called “flower essences” hold the healing properties of flowers. These potions have gained popularity over the past 100 years, especially in the UK and Europe, and are now often prescribed by doctors and practitioners to promote psychological, emotional and even physical wellbeing. Toph continues to see the power of flowers in her own life.
While working for Wendy Fogg at Misty Meadows Herbal Centre, Toff qualified in herbology in 1997. In 1998, she studied with David Dalton to become a flower essence practitioner. Two years ago, she and her husband, an avid gardener at Day Lily, moved to Barrington with 100 perennials. “Working with nature,” she says, they have collaborated to create more than 200 flower essences, which they sell under the brand name Lickenwood Herbals.
From her home office, she consults, hosts workshops, teaches intensive courses in flower essences and herbology, runs an on-site apothecary, and finds time to garden and hike. Visit www.lichenwood.com.
