NEW DELHI: The government has extended the term of AYUSH Secretary General Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha for another year, up to June 28, 2025, through an official order.
This marks his third extension in the post.
The Cabinet Committee on Personnel has approved the extension of the term of Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH, for one year from June 28, 2024, i.e. up to June 28, 2025, on contract basis, the personnel ministry said in an order issued on June 18.
Kotecha was appointed as the Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani Therapy, Siddha Therapy and Homeopathy) in 2017. He has been given two two-year extensions in 2020 and 2022.
Kotecha’s extension comes as the centre gets ready to celebrate International Yoga Day on Friday.
The Ministry of AYUSH will be the nodal ministry for the observation of this grand event.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the flagship event of this year’s International Day of Yoga, which will be held at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar on June 21.
The Ministry of AYUSH was established on November 9, 2014 with a vision of reviving the deep knowledge of ancient systems of medicine with emphasis on education and research in Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy.
Earlier, the Indian Department of Medical and Homoeopathic Systems (ISM&H), established in 1995, was responsible for developing these systems.
