BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Find peace and find the help you need as Kern officials announce two first-of-its-kind psychiatric care facilities at 702 and 718 Workman Street in East Bakersfield. It may be easier to receive.
One facility is for adults and one for children. Each of his 16 beds has plenty of space and area to enjoy with others or alone.
“I think we are seeing an increase in inpatient services across the county in contrast to past years,” said Lou Gross with Kern County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services.
Proponents of the facility said it would provide what the county was missing in mental health care.
“Many of our facilities are old hospitals that have been renovated and are actually well-lit with natural light and other things,” Gose said. “So that people can heal, get better and get back on their journey to recovery.”
These aren’t the only facilities opening, as will the Psychiatric Wellness Center, located at 2204 Q Street in downtown Bakersfield.
“A lot of people live in rural areas and don’t have access to a lot of community centers, especially when it comes to mental health. And our proximity to downtown provides us with that accessibility.”Partners said. Facility, Michael Bowers.
CEO Ganesh Acharya said Access will help with enrollment trends among the patients they are seeing.
“What you’re looking at are people who are homeless, dealing with family trauma, or are coming out of prison. All of these people really need this kind of care, and this kind of I think we really need to make adjustments,” Acharya said.
Mr Acharya said the three new facilities would particularly impact the homeless population.
“It’s hard to ask for help, but it’s even harder when there seem to be many barriers to getting that help. Our goal is to break down those barriers and help people understand what they think in their minds. “It’s about being able to actually help people achieve their goals,” Acharya said.
The Psychiatric Wellness Center opened on Thursday, May 16 at 5:30 p.m., but the other two facilities are not expected to open for several more months.
