Enjoy First Friday while you can I wanted to give a shout out to First Friday in the NoBo Arts District. It’s so much fun to listen to live music and support local artists. Unfortunately, events like this are becoming rare in Boulder. We need to enjoy it as much as we can before the city knows people are having fun and annexes the area and bulldozes the place. Rick Dyson, Boulder Nutritional education is essential for young women Social media preys on women by trying to expose their various insecurities. “What do you want to do this weekend?” I ask my little girl. “Mom, please stay home and relax,” she replied immediately. It’s the bank holiday weekend. I was away the previous weekend. We both know exactly what we wanted. Let’s just hang out together and do nothing. relieve stress As part of my coping strategy when things were really difficult, I went to London with my parents and daughter for a few days and took a meditation course. Transcendental Meditation (or I’ve heard it described as something like Jerry Seinfeld). Immediately, I noticed a difference in my stress levels.…
When you search for “food,” “cooking,” or “recipes” on the video-sharing platform TikTok, #FoodTok alone brings up 26 billion search results. And millions of us use recipes for meal ideas. If you look closely, many of them are downright unhealthy. That’s because, unlike food on supermarket shelves or many restaurant menus, platforms like TikTok and Instagram aren’t subject to the offline world’s healthy eating laws, and foodie influencers also share the nutritional content of their recipes. Because it doesn’t need to be displayed.Harry Snell, a nutritionist who specializes in emotional eating and weight loss, warns that many of them contain “hidden…
When you read a work of fiction, you are (hopefully) experiencing the by-products of someone else’s mind at work at the height of its creative power. This feeling may seem a little mysterious. I’m sure I’m not the only person who has read a book and at the same time wondered where the book’s content came from. That’s a feeling I often have when reading the novels and stories of Lydia Millett, an author I’ve been reading for nearly 25 years. What started out as her bizarre satire in 1999 now seems like something from another world. In “George Bush, Love’s Dark…
The last five years have been great for anyone interested in UFOs and aliens. The public debate over UFOs and extraterrestrial life has been going on for a decade, thanks to an article published in the New York Times in 2019 about reports of UFOs, also known as unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs), off the East Coast. There was a big change in my appearance. Before. Since then, the whole topic of UFOs has felt much more tenuous than it once was. We don’t have anything like actual alien evidence yet, but at least this is a live question in a…
I’m a big fan of Alice Medrich, an American food writer who experiments with different flours, nuts, and chocolates. Treatment for children diagnosed with thalassemia, a chronic blood disease, involves meticulous visits to the hospital, blood transfusions, and compliance with medication. While these interventions are undoubtedly important for physical health, there is a less obvious challenge: the psychosocial effects of living with this condition for the rest of your life. The current healthcare system focuses on the physical aspects of thalassemia management and often overlooks the important need for strong psychosocial support for both patients and their families. The current healthcare system does not address the psychological impact of this disorder, which can jeopardize a patient’s overall health and…
