On the weekend of June 22-23, 2024, young people from the Archdiocese of Toronto gathered at the Cathedral of the Martyrs in Midland, Ontario for the first-ever Spiritus Ministry Retreat. ReawakeningOver 80 participants from all walks of life came together for a weekend of encounter with the Lord. It was an opportunity to step away from the secular world and the busyness of everyday life, cut off the outside noise, find silence, and hear what God is calling you to next.
Retreat leaders offered insights on imitating the lives of martyrs, vocational discernment, and discovering our charisms. Sisters of Life generously accompanied participants and helped them deepen their prayer life throughout the weekend. Father Gregory Carruthers of St. Augustine Seminary spoke about different seeds for deepening faith in the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and Father John O’Brien of the Holy Land spoke about how to use Ignatian spirituality to discern God’s will.
Being in the Land of the Holy Canadian Martyrs was incredibly special for the monks as they were able to brave the rain and celebrate God’s goodness, mercy and awesomeness. This sacred weekend provided ample time for reflection, strengthening of faith and above all, time with Jesus.
