When beauty influencer Sarah Palmira posted a TikTok video about her family’s skin, her followers couldn’t believe her grandmother’s supple skin and wrinkle-free skin was in her 90s.
Palmyra’s supporters wanted to know what the 90-year-old Nevenka, who declined to give her last name, does to keep her skin youthful.
Everyone develops wrinkles on their skin as they age, but genes, exposure to UV rays, and repeated facial expressions determine how deep and how many wrinkles they have. Many people turn to “anti-aging” creams and beauty products to reduce wrinkles. According to Statista, facial anti-aging products are expected to generate more than $1 billion in sales in the U.S. in 2023. But the Food and Drug Administration doesn’t rate beauty. Even if you choose a product with the expectation of effectiveness, there is no guarantee that it will reduce wrinkles.
Palmyra told Business Insider that Nevenka has been taking care of her skin since her early teens, doing skin care every morning and night, never going to bed with makeup on, and using anti-aging products. .
Sunscreen is the most important part of Nevenka’s daily routine, says dermatologist
Dr. Derek V. Chan, a board-certified medical and cosmetic dermatologist in Manhattan, told BI that applying sunscreen is “the most important part of Nevenka’s skin care routine by far.”
Palmira said Nevenka always wears sunglasses, a hat and sunscreen when she’s outside.
Chan recommended wearing a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 daily and a wide-brimmed hat, which provides more protection than a baseball cap.
She uses a lot of moisturizing and anti-aging skin care products
According to Palmira, Nevenka has been using the following products for more than 50 years:
Clarins Velvet Cleansing Milk — Nevenka applies this cleanser and removes it with cotton. Chan said the product helps maintain and rebuild the skin barrier, thereby helping to hydrate the skin. It also has anti-aging properties, as it contains yellow gentian, which protects against DNA damage caused by UV rays, and moringa oil, which reduces fine lines.
clarins hydrating toning lotion — This lotion contains aloe vera, which helps protect against UV damage and prevents photoaging, Chan said. Additionally, fig tree and crocus help even out skin tone.
lancome génifique serum — Similar to Clarins Cleansing Milk, this serum contains vitamin C, which is said to have anti-aging properties by reducing hyperpigmentation and increasing collagen production, which reduces the appearance of fine lines. Mr. Chan said.
Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Lift & Firm Night Cream — Chang said she likes this product because it contains ceramides, which help rebuild the skin’s barrier and keep skin hydrated. As skin ages, it produces less ceramides, so applying ceramides can have anti-aging benefits.
The night cream also contains edelweiss extract, which has “various anti-aging effects” such as improving eye wrinkles and skin density, elasticity and thickness, Zhang said. Nevenka applies this to her face and décolletage.
lancome tan idol foundation — This foundation also contains moringa extract and vitamin E, which can help repair UV-damaged skin and even out skin tone, Chan said. It also contains probiotics that promote “good bacteria” on the skin.
