ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Some researchers have found that acupuncture can provide significant relief for chronic pain patients and may reduce the need for painkillers. This ancient method is said to be a viable treatment option for managing pain and improving overall health.
Acu585 in Rochester operates on a unique model, offering acupuncture sessions in both private and community settings.
“Community sessions are mainly based on managing stress, maintaining balance in the body and improving immunity along with that.Private sessions focus on women’s health, men’s health, pain conditions, etc. ,” said licensed acupuncturist David Doctor. Seamus Clancy.
Immersive environments act as mindfulness tools, returning individuals to a calm, focused state and away from pain. Eboni Jones-Stewart, a customer of Acu585, receives her acupuncture treatments twice a month.
“I started acupuncture to help with my infertility issues, but it also has the added benefit of being more relaxed,” Jones-Stewart said.
“We adjust treatments as needed; there are 400 pressure points on the body,” Dr. Clancy added.
Acupuncture triggers a controlled stress response in the body, prompting the body to react as if faced with a mild stressor, such as an injury.
“We use a gentle insertion technique, which is a Japanese technique. So what we do is we use small guide tubes, we place them at points on the skin, and then the needle What happens is your body reacts the same way it would if you were injured, so all the natural endogenous painkillers, endogenous opioids, endogenous endorphins, and dopamine. “It’s released,” Dr. Craney explained.
Is acupuncture comparable to modern medicine in relieving symptoms?
“We like to think of acupuncture as a tribute to modern Western medicine. Let’s say you break your arm or something serious like that happens. Acupuncture is not good for that, but… After those things happen, it’s great,” Dr. Clancy added.
Some insurance plans will cover acupuncture with a doctor’s prescription, but if your insurance doesn’t cover it, your local acupuncture center may offer an alternative.
“No questions asked, just choose the price set for you, come in, and get all the benefits of acupuncture at a discounted price,” Dr. Clancy said.
“If you have headaches or cramps, simply applying pressure point stickers to your hands or ears can help reduce pain and stress,” Jones-Stewart added.
