Seasonal changes often bring a surge in illnesses, so lifestyle and dietary changes are essential to boost immunity and prevent health issues. Illnesses like digestive problems, respiratory congestion and weakened immunity are common during monsoons. Ayurvedic principles suggest that the body has the ability to heal itself, especially with the help of natural remedies. Consuming warming spices, herbal teas and nourishing foods can boost digestion and immunity. Additionally, practices like daily oil massage (abhyanga) and herbal steam inhalation are effective in detoxifying and strengthening the respiratory system.
With the onset of the monsoon season comes an increase in flu and infections, says Ayurvedic expert Dr Madhumita Krishnan. She further adds, “As per Ayurvedic principles, the change in weather during monsoon throws the body’s doshas (vata, pitta and kapha) out of balance, making you more susceptible to a variety of ailments including cold, cough, digestive and respiratory problems. To stay healthy and prevent illness, it is essential to adopt lifestyle and dietary habits that support the body’s natural balance during this season.”
