Mood regulation and elevation
A study by Professor Stephen Wallenberg of Oxford University, “The Effect of Scent on Emotions: Mood and Physiology”, identified four main positive moods using a self-reporting method called mood mapping: happiness, stimulation, relaxation and sensuality.
Citrus scents are known for their invigorating and mood-boosting properties, stimulating feelings of happiness and energy, while sensual scents such as rose, vanilla and ylang-ylang are prized for their aphrodisiac properties, increasing desire and sensuality. These scents trigger emotional responses in the brain and bring about a range of positive moods, making them useful tools for transforming feelings of depression, fatigue and stress.
Inspired by the word “mood,” Singapore-based company Mudo Labs was founded with the goal of taking control of moods with cutting-edge tools that blend science and tradition. With a focus on discovery, the company has tapped a network of renowned scientists, psychologists, research institutes, and an in-house research and development team to gather information on Asian plants and their healing and mood-altering properties. The company’s first product is The Beem, a pen-shaped, pocket-sized device that combines aromachology and acupressure to provide practical solutions to enhance and alter customers’ emotional states. The Beem offers “six moods” featuring powerful natural Asian ingredients such as ginseng, tongkat ali, and moringa, as well as world-renowned scents such as rose, damiana, and sage. The array of scent cartridges is intended to uplift, clarify, and soothe the soul and spirit, and its unique design employs the technology of acupoint stimulation based on the principles of traditional Chinese medicine.
To use it, you first activate and inhale the scent inside the pen-shaped tool to encourage meditative breathing, then apply acupressure to the point above Cupid’s bow, which several studies and health protocols say helps refocus the mind and calm it.
