A series of collaborative conversations hosted by Essex County Community Services Board, Building Essex Family Resilience (BRIEF) Coalition and ECHO on: April 16th, 18th, 23rd, 25th We will focus on the effects of childhood trauma, known as ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences), and their relationship to potential addiction and mental health effects. Community members, local organizations and leaders will share opportunities to drive positive change in Essex County.

We encourage families, counselors, teachers, school administrators, health care providers, elected officials, law enforcement, organizations, fellow advocates, and members of the professional community to join the conversation.
Essex County Facts:
- There were more completed suicides in 2023 than in 2021 and 2022 combined
- Overdoses and fatal overdoses increased in 2023.
Each event will include an introduction by the town supervisor and a presentation on the relationship between trauma and addiction by Zachary Randolph, interim CEO of St. Joseph’s University. A panel discussion with community members will follow on how resilience and protective factors can be effective in mitigating the impact of ACEs on future addictions and mental health. Audience members will be able to ask questions to a panel of community members at each event.
This series of events is sponsored by the Essex County Community Services Board, BRIEF, and ECHO and funded by an RCORP grant through the Hudson-Mohawk Area Health Education Center (AHEC).
