The Yobe State government on Wednesday took a psychological response to the ongoing issue of vandalism damaging power transmission towers in the state.
Babagana Kyari, Special Adviser on Religious Affairs to Governor Mai Mala Buni, made the government’s position clear at a prayer meeting in Damaturu, the state capital.
Vandals destroyed electricity towers, cutting off Borno and Yobe states from the national power grid.
Kyari led a group of Muslim clerics in reciting the Holy Quran, praying for God to punish the rebels for destroying the tower, and slaughtering a cow.

The development followed the governor’s warning that after repairing the tower, he would lead recitations of the Holy Quran and prayers against criminals who are hell-bent on denying power supply to both countries.
Yola Electricity Distribution Company recently revealed that criminals destroyed the tower for the first time in December 2023 and for the second time in February 2024. Both towers were repaired by the Yobe State government in collaboration with the electricity transmission company. Nigeria.
Kyari, while leading Muslim clerics and students of the Holy Quran who took part in Wednesday’s reading and prayer meeting, said a cow was sacrificed for the sake of Allah to expose and punish rebels who destroyed power towers. However, he said he had had enough.
“The spiritual prayer meeting revealed that Allah will expose the criminals, their sponsors, supporters, those who helped with the tools used to destroy the tower, those who transported them to the scene of the crime, and those who knowingly refuse to do so.” It was to punish them, the buyers of the destroyed tower parts, the transformer thieves,” Kyari said.
These towers are part of the Jos-Gombe power grid that supplies electricity to Borno and Yobe states.

All efforts to speak to Buni Governor Mohamed Mamman and the Director of Media and Press proved unsuccessful and he could not be reached by phone at press time.
