Yakubu Gowon National Coordinator of the International Community Center for National Unity and Viral Hepatitis Project, Mr Adeyeye Ajayi, advised hepatitis patients to refrain from treatment with herbal medicines.
He gave this advice on Wednesday during a hepatitis test conducted by the center in Jalingo, Taraba State.
The test, which attracted patients from three senatorial districts in the state, was supported by the North East Development Commission (NEDC).
In his address, the project coordinator acknowledged that NEDC had donated 2,000 doses of viral hepatitis vaccine to the Taraba State government.

Mr. Ajayi also stressed the need for residents to take advantage of the free testing and treatment for hepatitis patients being conducted by the center in collaboration with the North East Development Commission.
Mr. Ajayi disclosed that individuals who test positive for hepatitis B and hepatitis C will receive free treatment courtesy of NEDC.
The comprehensive operation planned in northern, central and southern Taraba states will include advocacy, sensitization, screening and vaccination of 2,000 patients.
He said these health interventions are part of a broader health intervention program launched by NEDC.
Some of the beneficiaries of this initiative expressed their appreciation for the collaborative efforts of NEDC and Yakubugowon Center.
But they called for testing to be carried out monthly to give more people access to testing and treatment.
Several beneficiaries admitted that they had used herbal remedies for their own treatment before the center started providing services.
