Arjun Kapoor’s latest Instagram post is a scenic compilation of his trip to Altaussee, a medical health resort in Austria. While most of the pictures reflect the actor’s laid-back getaway at the medical health resort, one picture in particular has caught the internet’s attention. In the picture, Arjun is seen wrapped up in a blanket and smiling as he has an IV drip in his arm. For the uninitiated, the IV drip being administered to Arjun has no medical complications in its path. Rather, it is simply a “rehydration therapy” that is becoming increasingly popular among celebrities.
What is intravenous micronutrient therapy?
Simply put, intravenous micronutrient therapy is an IV therapy in which vitamins are infused into the body. The USP of this therapy is that the vitamins are injected directly into the bloodstream, giving the body immediate results. IV vitamin therapy has been in the spotlight many times due to casual endorsements from A-list celebrities. But what exactly is IV vitamin therapy?
According to a report by Healthline, the primary target audience for this therapy are people suffering from digestive and respiratory ailments, but it is also popular for post-sports recovery and hangover relief. While the oral supplement market is booming in the health and wellness sector, IV vitamin therapy is said to essentially provide fast-acting relief to the body, as the IV solution bypasses the digestive system and is absorbed directly into the bloodstream.
At first glance, this seems like a surefire way to ensure your body is well-nourished. However, there are obvious risks associated with this method, including concerns about the risk of excess release of water-soluble vitamins and the side effects of high concentrations of certain vitamins, including possible permanent nerve damage.
Arjun Kapoor isn’t the only one to endorse IV vitamin therapy.
Before Arjun Kapoor, other celebrities have casually shared pictures and moments of themselves undergoing vitamin infusion therapy. In May 2022, Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber came under fire for their “IV infusion party” which was aired on the TV show “The Beatles.” The KardashiansKendall described the day she received an IV infusion during her trip to Miami as “a really fun day.”
Actress and Goop president Gwyneth Paltrow also described herself as an “early adopter of IVs” during a podcast appearance in March 2023. “I love IVs!” she declared, a confession that drew backlash online.
In 2019, Madonna shared a video of herself taking part in the practice while in rehab, surrounded by Tibetan bowls and soothing music.
Back in 2015, John Legend’s model wife, Chrissy Teigen, posted a photo of herself looking glamorous in a fluffy robe with an IV in her arm, captioned the post, “Hello body meets vitamins.”
While an IV drip might not be the most obvious image that springs to mind for casual relaxation and rejuvenation, celebrity culture seems to have pushed the idea of good time into the outer fringes, sparking speculation that self-care may be becoming increasingly recreational.
If you have the opportunity, why not try IV vitamin therapy?
