PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WMBB) – Every Wednesday at noon, News 13 airs a segment called “Wellness Wednesday,” focusing on health and fitness.
This week, Pure Platinum personal trainer Traycee Green appeared in studio with News 13’s Kelsey Peck to show us the different types of flour.
“Basic white flour is just like wheat flour, but the bran and germ have been removed, where all the nutrients are,” Green says.
Other options and their beneficiaries are:
Coconut flour is made from coconuts and is grain and gluten free. This alternative is also higher in calories. Its sweet taste makes it a great addition to baked goods like cakes, cookies, and breads.
Quinoa flour is a good source of protein, fiber, iron, and good fats. This option benefits digestive health and inhibits tumor growth. It can be used to thicken soups and sauces, or added to pizza and pie crusts.
Another option is buckwheat flour, made from ground buckwheat. This option is unrelated to wheat and therefore gluten-free. It has an earthy flavor and can help improve blood sugar levels, heart health, and support digestive health. It’s great when combined with other flours.
