LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Norton Healthcare’s Prevention & Wellness Mobile Primary Care is now making weekly stops at the Goodwill Opportunity Center on East Broadway.
“It’s more personal,” says Amanda Dewes, a nurse at Norton Healthcare. “People come in, we sit, we chat, and they follow up with me.”
The mobile primary care vehicle will be at the Goodwill at 909 E. Broadway near S. Campbell Street every Wednesday starting in May. You can make a reservation, but walk-ins are also welcome.
“This is convenient because sometimes you can’t go to the doctor,” Patricia Reed said after the appointment.
The mobile unit has two exam rooms, a waiting area, and a pharmacy room. It’s also an easy option for people like Reed who don’t have a car. She walked four miles to the clinic.
“I don’t mind walking,” Reid said. “It’s more exercise for me.”
Ms. Reed came in to have her blood pressure checked and to check for eczema. The waiting time was said to be less than 10 minutes.
“It’s much faster than the doctor’s office,” she says.
Norton hopes the unit will be able to meet people on the ground and provide assistance with minor injuries, vaccines and diabetes testing.
“This will really free up emergency rooms for real emergencies and help people stay healthy,” Dewees said.
Reed now recommends putting your health first and visiting the mobile clinic, even if it’s not on a Wednesday.
Mobile primary care units are also available at the following locations:
- Monday, NIA Center, 2900 W. Broadway.
- Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jefferson Green, 3010 Jefferson Green Drive (near Jefferson Mall).
The mobile medical unit is just one of the resources available at Goodwill on E. Broadway. With so many other resources available, this Opportunity Center can be your one-stop-shop for everything from health to housing to employment resources. These resources include the “Last Mile to Work” program, which collects broken bicycles, repairs them, and provides them to people who don’t have a means of commuting.
