Wearable medtech is at the cutting edge when it comes to improving healthcare. From smartwatches to patches, these devices can monitor and assist people’s health in ways that were previously only available in a clinic or hospital. It’s no wonder that Israel, the startup nation, is leading the way in developing these innovative, life-saving medical devices.

Wearable medical technology is reportedly becoming more user-friendly and increasingly popular thanks to the advent of new biosensor technology and smaller batteries. Health NewsThese devices can monitor your heart rate, blood pressurewarn of strokes and monitor athletes’ health.

While wearables won’t replace doctors, doctors are reportedly seeing the medical devices as a new wave in monitoring patients and identifying problems faster. No camels.

“In this way, we can use these wearable devices as an integral part of medical practice,” Dr. Shirit Kazm, a sports cardiologist and echocardiographer at Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva, told NoCamels. She emphasized that doctors will find unique ways to incorporate these devices into their practices.

Here are three Israeli startups developing innovative medical technologies.

Customized Medical Patches
A biotechnology company has developed a smart skin device made up of electrode patches that monitor key body functions. X-trodeBased in Herzliya. These customized patches can be attached to any part of the body and can monitor the activity of the heart, brain, muscles and eyes.

The patch is wireless, flexible, doesn’t require gel like other devices, and was recently approved by the FDA, meaning electrophysiological monitoring that was previously only available in a medical setting can now be done at home.

“The X-trodes system is a next-generation wearable, fully wireless solution that empowers clinicians and researchers to realize the full potential of medical-grade technology. Electrophysiological “Surveillance,” X-trodes CEO Ziv Pellemen told NoCamels.

Stroke Warning Technology
recovery stroke Much depends on how quickly treatment can be administered, which is why being able to predict when a stroke will occur could save valuable time. AvettThe Aderet-based company uses cutting-edge pulse wave technology to monitor changes in blood flow to the brain with its StrokeAlert device, NoCamels reported.

The pulse wave technology has sensors that, when worn on the carotid arteries on either side of the neck, measure blood flow levels. The data is sent to a smartphone app which sends the user a colour code – green means everything is normal, yellow means data is being analysed and red means there’s an increased risk of stroke – and sends an alert to the wearer, medical staff and emergency responders.

Patients Clinical symptoms of stroke – Before this new technology, this was the only way to diagnose a stroke, but it could be too late.

Check your vital signs with your smartphone
Although not technically wearable, Bina A medical technology startup has reportedly turned mobile devices like smartphones and tablets into medical monitoring tools that can measure heart rate and oxygen saturation. The Israel TimesFounded in 2016, the company uses the camera on your smart device to scan your skin: just look into the camera and the company’s system measures your vital signs.

The company’s co-founder and CEO, David Mamon, told The Times of Israel that binah.ai’s technology detects changes in the skin and draws conclusions about vital signs. “We’re basically tracking tiny color changes that are happening in the skin, and those tiny color changes indicate blood flow that’s happening beneath the surface of the skin,” he said.

The technology uses AI and machine learning, but it has some drawbacks: It can’t detect changes in low light or bright sunlight.
