GOSHEN — A Senior Health and Fitness Day event was held at Waterford Crossing Senior Living on Wednesday morning.
The event included a booth offering information and screening services, as well as a lunch-and-learn with presentations.
“We have a group of seniors in our area who are incredibly passionate about learning, working and doing things to improve their lives as they age, so we’re excited to be able to provide them with that opportunity,” said Lisa Zollinger, sales manager at Waterford Crossing.
Before lunch, the rehabilitation department conducted swallowing and balance tests.Other vendors participating included Boling Eye Center, Paragon Therapy, Firefly Home Care Services and Elkhart County Health Department Goshen Home Care and Hospice.
Maddie Kozlowski, Community Health Worker with the Elkhart County Health Department, spoke at the event about “Positive Health Behaviors for Living Your Best Life.”
“My goal is to make sure people across the county have access to the resources they need to live a healthy life — not just through the health department, but across the county,” Kozlowski said. “This is my first time participating in Senior Wellness Day, but it’s really cool because I get to work with a specific demographic and help people access the resources they need.”
Alzheimer’s and Dementia Services of Northern Indiana was another vendor that shared information.
“Our main goal is to provide support in a variety of ways to caregivers of people with dementia, through support groups, education both in person and online, memory testing, family consultations and anything else we can do to help caregivers and connect them with local resources,” said Program Manager Jo Collins.
Waterford Crossing Senior Living’s main goal is to be a valuable resource for the local community.
“We always want people to know that if they have a family member or friend who is experiencing memory loss or dementia issues, we are here to offer them support and help them find ways to cope,” Zollinger said.
