USA Swimming aims to promote water safety, teach proper swimming techniques and help reduce drowning rates in our communities.
About 100 residents are expected to participate in the free water safety course, which will be taught by the Springfield Swim Club and 2004 Olympic silver medalist Maritza McClendon.
“Baystate Health is proud to be a community partner of the Swim 1922 Water Safety Clinic and Wellness Fair hosted by the Lambda Beta Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho. We support Swim 1922’s mission to provide water safety education to children of color and reduce the number of drowning deaths among that demographic. We believe this event has the power to make the sport of swimming more accessible throughout our community,” said Dr. Yolanda S. Marlow, Pediatric Surgery Program Manager and ATLS Coordinator. “With summer fast approaching, it’s the perfect time to take advantage of our free swim sessions to improve or build on your child’s or your own swimming skills.”
