There are several nutrients you can expect to get from gummy vitamins. For example, vitamin D, iron, and zinc. There are some things you should never ingest, such as metal mesh. But it may have ultimately come down to Vitafusion gummy vitamins.
The incident led to a voluntary recall of some supplements from the manufacturer, New Jersey-based Church & Dwight. In a notice posted by the Food and Drug Administration on April 20, 2021, Church & Dwight announced the voluntary recall after investigating two consumer reports regarding metal contamination in metal mesh.
Here’s what you need to know about the Vitafusion gummy vitamin recall, a list of affected products, and what to do if you’ve purchased or consumed them.
According to the notice, the company has “confirmed that metal mesh material may be present.” The contamination of the metal mesh was caused by an “isolated issue” at one of the company’s manufacturing facilities. The products subject to the recall were manufactured between October 29, 2020 and November 3, 2020.
Church & Dwight said in a statement on its website that it is not aware of any reports of consumer illness or injury. Still, it warned that “in severe cases, ingestion of metallic substances can lead to damage to the gastrointestinal tract.”
The company distributed eligible products to stores and online retailers from November 13 to April 9, 2021.
Two of the recalled products – a children’s melatonin supplement and Fiberwell 90 count gummies – were sold at Publix grocery stores, according to a notice posted on the store’s website. However, Church & Dwight did not release a complete list of retailers that sold the affected products.
Church and Dwight told people who had purchased the affected vitamins to immediately stop taking them. The company added that consumers should call its Consumer Affairs team at 1-(800)-981-4710 before disposing of recalled products. Church and Dwight also urged anyone who is sick or injured to call 1-(999) 234-1828.
